Elena Forbes worked for a number of international investment groups before becoming a full-time writer. ‘A Bad Bad Thing’ was a unique spin on the police procedural genre. A detective suspended who is trying to clear her name and to do this, she needs to rely on the help of a seasoned criminal. It was brilliantly paced, the tension definitely built up and there was one section that was quite shocking. I am going to state now there is going to be a spoiler in the next paragraph so please don't read further if you don't want to read it.

Right, during the investigation, Eve is drugged and date-raped without her knowledge. Now what I need to address is the reaction people have had to this scene. Eve as a character is very forthright and let's carry on with business as that is HER coping mechanism. Some people have commented that this made her hard to relate to her as a character and she came across as cold. People should NEVER judge someone who has gone through that experience and how they react to it. Every person has a different coping mechanism and that is okay. People should accept how the person reacts to an event and just try to support them as much as possible. I know this is a complete rant but it made me so angry when people were pointing this out. Imagine this was your friend or family member and people talked that way about them. You wouldn't like it. Authors are influenced by real events all the time - think about that and hold your whist! Rant over!
I thought Eve was an intriguing character. Flawed, intelligent, trusting and misunderstood. I enjoyed her strength throughout the story and I am pleased with the resolution of the book and how things might progress in the series. Also, I know nothing about the subject matter of racing and had no interest in hr. However, Elena made it very accessible in her writing and an interesting look at that world. The storyline was well-plotted as it gradually built up the tension.
This is a series which I will definitely look out for now. It was thoroughly enjoyable.
