Every action has a consequence…

‘As dark, gritty and chilling as it gets.  Keep the lights on!’ – Liz Mistry

An anonymous call leads DI Nathan Quarrel and his team to a secluded house in a Hertfordshire village and a horrific discovery: three chest freezers containing the naked bodies of five women.

As the painstaking business of identifying the apparently unconnected victims gets underway, it becomes frighteningly clear that a sadistic serial killer has been at work, probably over a long period of time.

With no strong suspects, and no leads, unmasking the killer takes on a new urgency. Because the discoveries at what the media is calling a 'house of horrors' may not stop the killer, or even slow them down. Indeed, they may already have targeted their next victim.

Review

‘In Ice’ is a gripping police procedural that is riveting, gruesome and down right addictive! This is the second book in the DI Nathan Quarrel series but it is easily read as a standalone. I haven't read the first book (something which I am going to rectify) and didn't have any problems keeping up with the backstories at all. I will also be keeping an eye out for future releases as I thoroughly enjoyed ‘In Ice’!

When DI Nathan Quarrel is setting off for a hike one morning he is called into work as there has been an anonymous call saying that there are bodies in an empty house in Wigginton. What the police find is three chest freezers in a basement packed with five female bodies. With evidence of torture and the fact that they were put in there whilst still alive Nathan knows that this is going to be a complex and difficult case to solve.

Nate was an intriguing character especially with the background of his childhood. Nate’s mother killed his father when he was aged seven and now his mother is pleading innocence and he is reworking the case! I loved this part of the story particularly because Nate comes across as a relatable and likeable character. The rest of the investigative team are also great characters, especially the trainee, Izzy, and I can't wait to see how she develops in future books.

‘In Ice’ was devoured in one sitting and I was enthralled from start to finish! The tension levels and pacing were excellent and THAT ending was brilliant! This is definitely an author to watch.

Let me know if you pick this one up!
