Review

‘The Memories We Bury’ is an emotionally charged, taut psychological thriller that was riveting from the very first page. It captured my attention, especially when threads begun to intertwine and I stayed up very late to finish it off as I just HAD to know what happened!

Lizzie is a newlywed and pregnant and has just moved into a house in Dalkeith with her husband Markus. Their neighbour Morag quickly befriends them and becomes a kind of replacement mother to Lizzie. They quickly form a very strong bond. Morag is there for the birth and always seems to be there with advice and offering help. But is this normal? Or is there more to it than it seems?!

I loved Lizzie, hated Markus and I still don't quite know what to think about Morag! I think she is quite a polarising character for good reason. Although, some of her actions were questionable there are reasons for them. I love psychological thrillers like this that delve down into the mindset of the characters. I felt you got to know both Lizzie and Morag exceptional well. Also to feel sympathy for Morag after the conclusion of the book means that the writing was superb. It shows that people are complex beings and that as humans we need empathy.

This is was an awesome psychological thriller that keeps you guessing throughout! I completely recommend it.
