Review
‘The Christmas Holiday’ is utterly gripping and full of family tensions and rivalries! This is a standalone thriller from Mikayla and I loved it. I have read a few of her books now and I know you are guaranteed a cracking read and this was no exception. It may be a little tamer than some of her books but I kind of liked that! I do think that this could be turned into a series though as there were lots that were still unexplored in this weird family!
It's Christmas and Alicia Silver is spending her first Christmas with her new husband Jack’s family in a luxury lodge in the Irish mountains. The Silver family are very wealthy, successful and beautiful and Alicia finds it hard to fit in. All she wants is for them to love her. The festivities are in full swing but Alicia starts to realise that there a lot of tensions and secrets in this family. They aren't perfect. One of the party will soon be dead. Who would kill to protect their secret?
This is a classic whodunit with some psychological twists and a locked-in mystery to boot! The book opens with the death of a family member and the arrest of a suspect. We don't know who either is. Plus every family member has their own secrets and the tension is palpable from the get-go. I flew through this in one day and loved every minute of it. I love books like this though that look deep into family dynamics and secrets. It was very atmospheric with the setting of a snowed-in lodge in the middle of nowhere, hence the locked-in aspect of the narrative. The setting was definitely part of what made this for me as I was able to envision everything so very easily!
Let me know if you pick this one up!
